The Toronto is one of those cocktails we don't see a whole lot at cocktail bars. It's not classic enough to be in the classics, and it's really not progressive enough to be on modern menus. But to us it's one of the best (and simplest) cocktails out there. If you're making Manhattans, you've already got the rye whiskey and the Angostura bitters. The only two ingredients left are simple syrup (easy peasy) and Fernet-Branca - and everyone should have a bottle of that at their bar because, well, Fernet.
2 oz Rye Whiskey
1/4 oz Fernet-Branca
1/4 Simple Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Stir all ingredients with ice. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Optional, garnish with orange twist.
